Support & FAQ
We're a small independent developer and we read every message. Email jinglejoy.support@newversion.studio and we'll get back to you. In the app you'll find this page in Settings, along with the email link.
JingleJoy is published by New Version Limited, New Zealand, and the app is available worldwide.
Getting started
How does JingleJoy work?
From 1 December a new door unlocks on the Advent calendar each day. Play the short mini-game to turn the key, and the door opens onto something fun to do together. Do it, tap We did it, and you earn Joy Stars and an ornament for your family tree.
Do I need an account or internet?
No account, no sign-in, and no internet for everyday play. The only time JingleJoy goes online is to buy or restore JingleJoy Plus through the App Store or Google Play.
Can I try it before December?
Yes. Use Try a door in the welcome screens or Preview a door on the Advent tab to play a door before 1 December. A preview does not change your progress. The Play tab lets you try any game any day.
Doors and games
Do we have to play the game to open a door?
No. Just open it is always one tap away. Every finished game gives at least one star, and Little Elf mode has no timers, so little ones can play at their own pace.
I missed a day. Is it too late?
Not at all. Missed doors can always be opened later, in any order, and nothing scolds you. Streaks even get a weekly save, so one missed day will not break yours.
Stars, tree and profiles
What are Joy Stars?
Joy Stars are earned by playing games and doing the door activities. They can never be bought. You spend them on cosmetic things such as tree decorations. Your rank and badges come from real progress, never from spending.
How does the tree work?
Each door you do earns an ornament to hang on your family's tree. The household shares one tree, and on Christmas Eve a finale lights it up.
How do profiles work?
You can add several profiles, each with a name and an avatar, so everyone earns their own stars, rank and badges. Go to Settings → Profiles. The free version has room for three profiles and Plus allows six. Deleting a profile removes that person's stars and badges from the device, but the family tree stays.
Music and sound
How do I turn the music off or change the track?
Use the music button on the home screen to turn music on or off and pick a track. In Settings you can also switch sound effects and haptics on or off. If your phone's Reduce Motion setting is on, JingleJoy shows calmer screens without particles.
There's no sound
Check that your phone isn't on silent and that the volume is up. Music stays off if other audio is already playing when you open the app, so we don't interrupt your podcast.
Home-screen widget
How do I add the widget?
Long-press your home screen, tap the + button (on iPhone) or Widgets (on Android), and search for JingleJoy. The small widget is free. The medium and Lock Screen widgets are part of JingleJoy Plus.
The widget shows an old number or door
Widgets refresh on a schedule set by your phone, so they can lag a little. Opening JingleJoy refreshes them. On iPhone, also check that Background App Refresh isn't switched off for the app.
Reminders
How do door reminders work?
Turn on Door reminders in Settings and choose a time. Your phone then shows a gentle reminder each morning when the day's door opens. Reminders are local notifications made by your phone. Nothing is sent to a server.
Reminders don't appear
Check that notifications for JingleJoy are allowed in your phone's settings and that Door reminders is on in the app. On Android, make sure battery saving isn't stopping the app from showing notifications.
JingleJoy Plus and purchases
What does JingleJoy Plus include?
JingleJoy Plus is a one-time purchase of about US$4.99 (the price in your own country is shown by the store before you buy). It is not a subscription and never renews. All gameplay is free. Plus adds extra door packs, the door editor and custom calendars, extra themes and photo backgrounds, more widgets, extra tree decorations and up to six profiles. Nothing else is for sale, and there are no ads.
How do I restore JingleJoy Plus?
Go to Settings → Restore Purchases, signed in to the same Apple or Google account you bought it with. Plus belongs to that account, so each person who wants it should buy it on their own account. We can't promise that Family Sharing will include it. If you still can't restore it, email us.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple and Google, so refunds go through them. Use Apple's Report a Problem page or Google Play's order history to ask.
Sharing calendars
How do I share a calendar?
Open a calendar you made and choose Share this calendar. JingleJoy creates a code or link and opens your phone's share sheet, so you can send it to family in any messaging app. It travels only where you send it.
How do I add a calendar someone shared with me?
Open the link on your phone, or choose Import a code in JingleJoy and paste the code. You'll see the calendar before it's saved. If the code doesn't work, ask the sender to share it again.
Privacy and your data
Is my family's data private?
Yes. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Everything stays on your device. Our Privacy Policy has the details.
How do I delete all my data?
Go to Settings → Your data → Delete all my data. It erases your calendars, profiles, stars, ornaments, photos and settings from the phone, and it can't be undone. JingleJoy Plus stays with your store account either way. Uninstalling JingleJoy also removes all of its data from the phone.
Troubleshooting
A door isn't unlocking
Doors open at midnight on your phone's own clock, so check that your phone's date and time are set automatically and that the time zone is right (and that you haven't set the year or month by hand). If you've travelled, give it a moment or reopen the app.
The app closed or a game froze
Close JingleJoy completely and open it again. Your progress is saved as you go. Make sure your phone's system software and the app are up to date. If it keeps happening, email us with your phone model and what you were doing.
